April 22, 2008, Cornelius, N.C. – Aquesta Bank drew a large crowd of around 300 people to the grand opening celebration and ribbon cutting for Aquesta’s new corporate headquarters building on Thursday, April 17. Spectacular sights included the new 20,000 sq ft building, along with a flag-raising ceremony by Hopewell High School honor guards, and a flyover of 4 vintage planes, including two T-28s, a navy SNJ and a DC-3 from the Carolinas Aviation Museum.

A ceremonial ribbon cutting with the Lake Norman Chamber was held at 11:00 AM, and included remarks from Mayor Jeff Tarte. During the ceremony, Mayor Tarte presented Aquesta Bank CEO Jim Engel with a coin that signified that the establishment of Aquesta Bank was a good deed for the Lake Norman community.

Hopewell High School honor guards, led by Mike Puckett (Colonel, U.S. Army, retired) raised an American flag recently flown over military troops in Afghanistan to honor of those serving our country in the war. Warrant Officer (WO1) Jenelle Seaton and 2LT Kristin Colby, currently serving in Afghanistan, had heard of Aquesta Bank’s search for an American flag and sent the flag for the ceremony so that troops could be honored here at home. Aquesta Bank’s commercial loan officer, Jeff Moody, sang the national anthem as the flag was being raised.

A spectacular diamond formation of four planes flew above the Aquesta Bank building and displayed a missing man formation honoring fallen soldiers. Pilots included local residents Harry O’Nan, Larry Morris, Jack Mangan, Jack Mitchard, and Scott Edwards.

During the grand opening celebration, Aquesta employees gave tours of the new headquarters building. Representatives from NC Green Power in Raleigh were in attendance to point out the solar panels on the building that generate energy from the sun. The Aquesta building is the only building in Mecklenburg County with solar panels.

Guests at the celebration enjoyed hot dogs from Matt’s Chicago Dogs, and Pizza from Brooklyn South. They were also eligible to enter to win one of five IPOD nano’s which were given away in a drawing every two hours throughout the day. Customers can also enter a contest to win a 15-foot Aquesta-blue tandem kayak with paddles the entire month of April.
