About Aquesta

Website Security

At Aquesta Bank, we work hard to ensure your personal and financial information is completely protected. Here are some helpful tips on how Aquesta protects you, and how you can be on the lookout for fraudulent activity.

Phishing

Phishing is the action of trying to obtain customer sensitive information such as usernames, passwords, and credit card details by disguising as a trusted entity in an email or phone call. Communications claiming to be from popular social web sites, banks, credit card processors or trusted IT staff members are commonly used to attract unsuspecting victims. Phishing emails may contain links to websites that are infected with malware and are typically carried out by email spoofing . It usually instructs users to enter details at a fake website that looks and feels just like the legitimate one.

To protect yourself against Phishing, please remember that Aquesta will NEVER ask for your personal non-public information by email or telephone. Please contact us if you suspect or would like to report phishing or if you have any questions.

Identity Theft

Identity Theft is when criminals obtain significant pieces of your personal non public information, such as your name, address, date of birth, Social Security number and mother’s maiden name in order to commit fraud. After the criminal gathers this information they can take over your bank accounts, open new bank accounts, apply for loans, credit cards, etc. all in your name. Below are some of the most frequent forms of Identity Theft:

  1. Theft of your wallet, purse, or checkbook
  2. Theft of mail from your mailbox
  3. Going through your trash looking for thrown away statements.
  4. Phishing—see above
  5. Hacking
  6. Pretext Calling—using false pretenses to obtain information via telephone

Malware

Malware is short for malicious software, and is defined as any software used to disrupt computer operation, gather sensitive information, or gain access to private computer systems. It can appear in the form of code, scripts, active content, and other software. Malware includes computer viruses (including worms, trojan horses), spyware, adware, and other malicious programs. The majority of active malware threats are usually worms or trojans rather than viruses.

Software such as anti-virus, anti-malware, and firewalls when kept up to date and current are the best defense against malware attacks.

Mobile banking

Mobile banking from Aquesta is a safe and convenient with a mobile banking app protected by mobile banking security measures including state-of-the-art encryption, and layered multi factor authentication. However, there are always basic precautions you can take when accessing any of your online accounts. With your Smartphone there are several different ways to use mobile banking and each one has a unique set of tips to follow. Stick to these guidelines to ensure your Mobile Banking experience is a safe one.

  1. Avoid making your personal information easily accessible. Don’t share your PIN, password or security question with anyone or save it to your phone.
  2. Enable a password for your phone so if it is lost or stolen others cannot access your information.
  3. If your phone is lost or stolen call Aquesta immediately and change all account passwords from a computer as soon as possible.
  4. Make sure you monitor your accounts and review transactions on a regular basis.

Email Encryption

Email Encryption refers to encryption, and often authentication, of email messages, to protect the content from being read by anyone but the intended recipients. Email encryption should be used by any user wanting to send personal non public information in an email outside of the organization. Aquesta uses Watchguard Email Encryption to encrypt emails with confidential non public information.

Confidential non public information includes but is not limited to Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, account numbers, medical information, personal identification numbers and other information that may be considered confidential based on its sensitivity or personal nature.

Password Security

Aquesta Bank requires a user-generated password in order to access online accounts so make sure you choose a strong password. Some guidelines to help achieve this is by making the password between 8-12 characters, a mix of upper and lower case letters, include numbers, and special characters. Always avoid using any common words or phrases and never create a password that contains yours or family members name, initials, or your date of birth. Aquesta does not require it, but we do recommend that users change their password every 90 days.

Finally and most important do not share your password with anyone and if you end up doing so change immediately.
